Goodbye Maine, Hello Minnesota

As of this week, I'm starting my new postdoc at UMN with the very humane and cool Brandy Toner. Because moving to the centre of a continent for an ocean science position makes complete sense!

For this postdoc, I'm moving from the basalt ridges and sediment plains of the mid-atlantic to the active warmth of hydrothermal vents of the East Pacific Rise. I'll study how these sulfide chimneys change as they go from being active to inactive, and how the microbial communities influence these changes. Particularly for inactive vents, there's so precious little information, so who knows what I'll find!
